| Oustanding Performer of the Week of May 1st GL viewers know that Kim Zimmer - like her gutsy character, Reva - is a force to be reckoned with. But both were faced with their greatest challenge in the scenes where Reva learned she had cancer, and both rose to the occasion. Not one to sit around and wait, Reva stormed the hospital to get the results of her biopsy. She was stunned to learn that her case had been turned over to an oncologist. "A cancer doctor," Reva spit. Zimmer's jaw went slack as though sucker-punched, then quickly tightened as though preparing for the next blow. This was news the bristling Reva would not take sitting down. Zimmer was stoic as Dr. McCabe explained a lumpectomy, but when he mentioned possible malignancy, Zimmer weaved woozily and took a seat. Still, this was Reva Shayne, and she wasn't going down without a fight. Fuming, she blasted icy McCabe's shoddy bedside manner: "I'm not just some color-coded file with a number on it!" But the weighty issue was too much, even for Reva. Zimmer finally allowed Reva's voice to crack as she choked, "If this procedure seems a little personal, it's because the one you want me to do is as personal as it gets. You want to cut open my breast." Reva eventually learned her tumor was cancerous and resigned herself to sharing this devastating news with Josh. But then he surprised her with the restored Cross Creek. Zimmer's eyes registered surprise, then gratitude, then remorse that she would have ruined this wonderful moment as Josh beamed that he had finally found his life's work. Zimmer hid a tear as Reva realized she couldn't ask him to push aside his dreams, bringing strong Reva to the surface again. "That train isn't going to slow down, much less derail, if I have anything to say about it," she vowed. Much like Zimmer's own wrenching performance. |
