Guiding Light's KIM ZIMMER (Reva) took a break from Springfield and headed out to California, where she took part in "Soap Week" on Hollywood Squares. Kim, a seasoned game show veteran, chatted with CBS.com about Reva, as well as losing her daughter, Rachel, to college. (Don't forget to tune in to Hollywood Squares the week of October 16 to see your favorite soap stars!) CBS.com: Did you travel out to California specifically to appear on Hollywood Squares? KIM ZIMMER: Yes, I did and it's fabulous because I have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off from the show! My daughter is a freshman at the University of Colorado at Boulder and I haven't seen her since July 22, so I'm going to stop there before I go home. I'm so excited. CBS.com: Was it a huge step for you when she went away to college? KIM ZIMMER: Oh, absolutely. She had applied to all these schools that were closer to us. They were a decent commute. Ever since we lived in California, from 1990 to 1995, she's been trying to get back. She loved it out here so much. We wouldn't let her apply to California schools, so Colorado was the closest she could get. [Laughs] CBS.com: Is this your first appearance on a game show? KIM ZIMMER: Oh, no. There was a time, in the eighties, when I did The $100,000 Pyramid, Tattle Tales, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud. I actually did Hollywood Squares before. [The show] came to Manhattan at Radio City Music Hall. We had a ball then. CBS.com: You must love being in front of a live audience. KIM ZIMMER: I do. I started in the theater and with the live audience. You really miss it when you do a soap. CBS.com: Isn't it nice to be able to show your own personality instead of portraying Reva's? KIM ZIMMER: Oh, yes. When they were doing my hair and makeup, [the stylist] said [of my hair], "Oh, it's getting a little bit big," and I said, "Go wild with it. Do what you want because this is me, not Reva!" CBS.com: Are you enjoying your current storyline with Reva's divorce and new love interest? KIM ZIMMER: Yes! Our new writers have injected a lot of humor into the show and it's coming through my character. Reva hasn't had the opportunity to have fun in a long time. She's getting into all kinds of trouble again, which is the old Reva. But it isn't bad trouble because it's being created from her heart. She's pursuing an objective that's gotten her into all kinds of trouble. CBS.com: Will Reva be able to completely let go of Josh and move on with Noah? KIM ZIMMER: She'll always have Josh. He'll always be a part of her life. They have kids. A large portion of her heart will always be committed to Josh Lewis. She grew up with him. You can't just remove that. I think she's going to try really hard and I think she's really too busy right now to be thinking about Josh. She's got this really hunky guy in her life right now. Mark [Dobies], who's playing the character of Noah Chase, we have such an incredibly wonderful time together. We laugh and we talk. It's been wonderful. CBS.com: It's great to see Reva with a new love interest. KIM ZIMMER: To have that and then to have the Josh influence, which is so comfortable. When we work together, it's so easy. When Mark and I work together, it's something new and exciting and the storyline's exciting, but yet the balance is so great. To have the ease and the comfort with Robert [Newman, Josh] and then the newness of Mark, I've got it made. CBS.com: Do you think Reva's catching on to the hints that there's something Noah's hiding? KIM ZIMMER: Yes. She knows now. She heard him say, "That's R64," or something like that. Come on! Who refers to themselves as a number? Either he's an alien...so that's going to result in helping Reva pursue trying to find the construction worker's wife. [Noah's] path is going to help Reva pursue her need to find and settle this man's death. CBS.com: I'm looking forward to seeing that. Now, will you be leaving right after the taping to see your daughter? KIM ZIMMER: I'm having dinner with friends tonight, here in town, and then I'm leaving early tomorrow morning, on stand-by. They're picking me up at 4:30 a.m., which will be 7:30 a.m. my time, so it's not that bad! |
